Jerry Harvey, wife Pat, and comrade Kim cruised through Mitchell, SD on their way to what the locals call West River, a popular tourist area in the western portion of the state (that’s where Sturgis is, folks). Before heading to Rapid City to sight-see their way through Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Badlands, and Tatanka in Deadwood, the trio hit up the Klock Werks showroom and the World’s Only Corn Palace!

Jerry, an Asheville, North Carolina resident, was already equipped with the Klock Werks’ patented Flare™ Windshield, but Kim and Pat weren’t yet rocking it- we were thrilled to change that! To get a feel for the Flare™ on her Goldwing, Kim drove Klock Werks’ Honda downtown to view the unique corn murals. The Krew installed two new Flare™ Windshields before they left town, one on Kim’s Goldwing and the other on Pat’s Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide. They were confident the ride was much improved and way more comfortable.

The Flare™ Windshield was wind-tunnel tested and has provided the best air management and increased stability you can get on 2 wheels (3 if you have a Trike, and now 4 if you have a RZR) for over a decade. Learn more about this technology on our Flare page: The Story of the Flare.

We had a few questions for Mr. Harvey after he and Brian Klock reminisced in front of the shop about days long past. When it comes to the Flare™, you can trust Jerry, he’s put over 35,000 miles on it.

What do you do?

From 2006 to 2016, I worked for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation as National Manager of the Ride for Kids, a series of motorcycle charity events across the country raising millions of dollars to fund research to find the cause and cure for childhood brain tumors. I retired from the foundation December 2015 and went to work for Hwy 191 Motorsports in Asheville, NC as a motorcycle salesman.

How did you hear about Klock Werks?

I had a 2008 Goldwing, and I saw ads for Klock Werks in several motorcycle publications, including Wing World. I then looked them up on the internet and read up on their expertise.

How long have you been using the Flare™ Windshield?

I bought the first Goldwing shield from Brian at Wing Ding in Wisconsin in 2014. I had checked the vendor list and saw Klock Werks would be there. Ride For Kids had a booth at the show, so on the first day of the show, I made it a point to find their booth before the doors were opened for the day. I knew I wanted the Flare™ Windshield, so I bought it on the spot.

I rode it to dinner that night and could feel the stability; it was incredible. I loved the look, the wind protection and now this! I was impressed! Since then, I traded the Wing and bought a 2012 Road Glide from the shop were I work. I have two Klock Werks Flare™ Windshield for it, one for the summer and one for winter and touring.

What do you like most about the Flare™?

I like to look over my windscreen, and the Flare™ allows me to do that. It also stops the head buffeting and offers good rain protection. (Klock Werks recommends you look over the Flare™. Call if you have any questions about height choices: 605-996-3700.) I also bought a Flare™ for my wife’s Tri-Glide when we stopped in Mitchell, SD. We put a little over 4,000 miles on the bikes on our recent SD trip, and she loves it!

Have you ever experienced any issues with the Flare™?

No problems! I’ve had various shields over the past 40 years of motorcycle riding, and I haven’t found any other screen that works as good as the Flare™.

When it comes to air management, an improved ride, and comfort, the Flare™ is the only choice! Call the Klock Krew today, or check out the selection of shields at GetKlocked.com! When you ride it, you’ll #UnderstandtheDifference the Flare™ makes.
